My first taste of Tito's Handmade Vodka.

As it's all but impossible to get where I live, my brother brought me back a bottle of Tito's Handmade Vodka from a trip he took to Texas. I thought it only right to put it up against my house vodka, Kansas' own Most Wanted. I am by no means a vodka connoisseur, but I've slugged back enough of the stank stuff to know what's bad. After sipping shots of each, I gotta tell ya that to this unrefined palate, these are pretty evenly-matched bottles of hooch.  Both are smooth as hell at 80 proof; with the only trace of burn being that warmth that hits your gut when you finish the shot. For me, the biggest differences between the two came out when I let the spirits sit on my tongue. Where with Most Wanted there's some bitterness that's exposed by doing so, Tito's bypasses the bitterness for something ever so slightly metallic; akin to the sensation you get after putting your tongue to a 9 volt battery (perhaps that's what stilling in copper gets ya?). The taste differences are uber-subtle and very difficult to detect, which I think speaks volumes about the care that small batch distillers put into their product.

Ftr, I think slow-sipping vodka's a bit silly in the first place (that's what gin is for). But regardless, I'm happy to have Tito's as an addition to my bar repertoire; and with the herbs coming up in my backyard, I'm looking forward to trying Tito's in this summer's cocktail experiments.
